    • Amphibious assaults alongside the Navy.
    • Embassy security and crisis response.
  • Unique Features:
    • Motto: “First to Fight.”
    • Renowned for rigorous training (Boot Camp is among the toughest).

Navy

  • Primary Role: Protecting U.S. interests on and from the sea.
  • Mission: To maintain, train, and equip combat-ready naval forces capable of winning wars, deterring aggression, and ensuring freedom of the seas.
  • Key Functions:
    • Naval warfare (surface, subsurface, and carrier aviation).
    • Strategic deterrence with ballistic missile submarines.
    • Humanitarian relief and global presence.
  • Unique Features:
    • Operates the world’s largest aircraft carrier fleet.
    • Strong focus on global reach and sea power.

Air Force

  • Primary Role: Control of air and space through airpower and missile systems.
  • Mission: To fly, fight, and win in air, space, and cyberspace.
  • Key Functions:
    • Air superiority and precision strike missions.
    • Strategic deterrence through nuclear-capable bombers and ICBMs.
    • Intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR).
  • Unique Features:
    • Operates the world’s most advanced fighter jets and bombers.
    • Increasing role in Cyber operations and space support.

Space Force

  • Primary Role: Operations in space to protect U.S. and allied interests.
  • Mission: To organize, train, and equip Guardians to conduct global space operations.
  • Key Functions:
    • Satellite operations (GPS, communications, missile warning).
    • Protecting U.S. space assets.
    • Space domain awareness and control.
  • Unique Features:
    • Established in 2019 as the newest branch.
    • Members are called “Guardians.”

Coast Guard

  • Primary Role: Maritime safety, security, and environmental protection.
  • Mission: To safeguard the Nation’s maritime interests both domestically and internationally.
  • Key Functions:
    • Search and rescue operations.
    • Drug and migrant interdiction.
    • Environmental protection and fisheries enforcement.
    • Homeland security and port defense.
  • Unique Features:
    • Operates under the Department of Homeland Security in peacetime.
    • Can be transferred to the Department of the Navy during wartime.
